EcoAstroBD is a Bangladesh-based astronomy-for-development platform dedicated to nurturing knowledge, creativity, and environmental responsibility through astronomy in Bangladesh and beyond. By integrating hands-on learning, sustainability, and inclusive science communication, EcoAstroBD uses the wonder of the universe as a tool for education, social engagement, and long-term development.
EcoAstroBD was founded by Sheikh Samia Akter Sami in 2025, with the vision of applying astronomy as a catalyst for educational and societal development. The platform's first flagship project received funding from the International Astronomical Union – Office of Astronomy for Development (IAU-OAD), marking Bangladesh's inclusion among the selected astronomy-for-development initiatives in 2026.
To democratize astronomical knowledge and transform it into practical field experience, fostering a community of young astronomers who appreciate the delicate balance between cosmic exploration and ecological stewardship.
A world where every astronomy enthusiast has access to field practice, and where cosmic awareness inspires environmental responsibility across generations.
Bringing astronomy education directly to students and teachers across Bangladesh
EcoAstroBD's first flagship project brings astronomy education directly to students and teachers across Bangladesh, with a focus on underprivileged schools and colleges in 3 regions: Brahmanbaria, Dhaka, Chittagong. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, critical thinking, and environmental responsibility, using astronomy as a tool for personal, academic, and community development.
